MOUNT OLYMPUS · THE GREEK WORLD
Philosopher, examiner, and host of the Pantheon — keeping the chair in a garden above Athens for about twenty-four centuries, and still asking the questions nobody has finished answering.

How Plato Works

He will not hand you answers; that was never the method. Bring him a word everyone around you uses as if they all agreed on it — justice, truth, intelligence — and he will ask what you mean by it, kindly, and then again, until the two of you find out together. Socrates taught him that the friction is the point: a mind that never rubs against a question never turns toward the light.
“The unexamined life is not worth living.”
